I do not believe the Bible is infallible. Luckily, my parents are part of a religion that believes similarly. Still, many Christians believe the Bible is perfect. The consistent life ethic also originated in Christian (more specifically, Catholic) circles.
Here's the problem with that: if taken out of context, the Bible is full of murder and other human rights violations. I mean, God tells Abraham to sacrifice his son to test his obedience, wars happen, genocide happens, God floods the entire earth, God commands people to kill people, King David is admired despite being a murderer and a rapist, the death penalty is prevalent, slavery happens, women are seen as inferior... the list goes on and on.
When taken into context, we realize that most of this happened before the Law of Moses was fulfilled, but this still leaves some questions unanswered. Is morality determined by what is considered acceptable in a given culture or time period? Why would God command people to commit murder in the Old Testament if killing is wrong? Why would God be so permissive of such horrible things, while freaking out because someone ate shellfish? It doesn't make sense to me.
Now, don't get me wrong, the Bible has a pretty good message overall. I admire Jesus very much. The Bible can also be quite entertaining (like when Saul visits the witch of Endor). But it should be thought about critically.
