Self-defense is not rape culture

A lot of mainstream liberal feminists are freaking out about technology that is meant to reduce the risk of rape, saying that such technology promotes rape. Then there's the other side of the spectrum that says that women who don't use such technology are "asking for it."
Both attitudes are wrong. Yes, the most important way to prevent rape is to teach people not to rape. However, this does not mean self-defense and anti-rape technology promote rape. No, they do not completely prevent rape, but there is no harm in using such technology. In fact, it's a pretty good idea.
Let's use locks as a comparison. Does locking your door promote theft? Of course not. Does it completely prevent theft? No; robbers may find other ways to steal property. If a person was robbed, is it their fault for not having up-to-date technology to protect their property? No. There are a million reasons why this could be. Maybe they can't afford up-to-date technology. Maybe their lock broke. Maybe they just plain forgot to lock their door.
Likewise, there are a million reasons why a person may have a higher risk of being raped, and none of them are necessarily their fault. Maybe the person wasn't taught self-defense. Maybe the person doesn't own a weapon, or maybe they can't own a weapon. And what about babies and toddlers who were molested? What about people with severe disabilities? Is it their fault that they can't defend themselves? Is it their fault that they don't have the same common sense that an able-bodied adult would have? Of course not!
Here's another thing that bothers me: many feminists who complain about "victim blaming" also complain about "weak" female characters in the media. According to them, Snow White was a ditz because she took the poisoned apple from a stranger. But if a woman did that in the real world, they would be more sympathetic. Hypocritical, isn't it?
I guess what I'm trying to say is that, yes, it is possible to believe that rape is never the victim's fault while still believing that self-defense is a good idea.
